off roading wannabe's thread!!1

creating a "wish i was as cool as drs" thread for us to talk about off road related shit rather than continue to destroy pretty much every other thread on this board most notable being the pnw drama thread which is so off track at this point it probably needs a passport to make its way back.

i want a dirt bike.

Not a bad bike and I'd ride 1 if I could afford an 06 or newer, bud has 1 and its decent, only other 250 I'd really want in a DS next to Kevs new bike

Once uncorked (pipe & carb) they're pretty cool

True. However, we can be charitable towards the poor blokes who haven't discovered yet that railing Highbridge on an R1 isn't the ultimate motorcycle experience.

(Of course, the ultimate experience would be riding a DS...with Megan Fox...finding a quiet place and trashing the suspension together)

Take one whoop out of the whoops(sp), basically a ditch. I think Jason said give it gas. My question is where? After the front is heading down or when the front is heading up?

heading up!
lean back , pin it and commit! If you back out..you'll ragdoll across the tops of the rest

your not ready for all that, basically keep the front end light. If its just a few woops, try and jump thru to clear them or just weeble-wobble thru, what ever you're most comfortable w/. In certain situations...try and ride it like it was an mx bike, its not and will show you, but you will still pick up on alotta little things.

also, your bike is gonna start to show much more wear than your sportbike ever did, cant let that get to you...its just waht they do

If you buy a used bike from a dealer and pay sales tax, does that mean i dont have to pay again when i go to transfer the title in my name? this bike is calling me http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/mcy/942796888.html

my folks live on Elphandolf, we can ride right from the driveway down a dirt road, around a gate and were in!

as sad as it is...that place is still new to me, only been twice. Cool thing...stepdads a pro wrencher for 40 yrs and has every tool possible, welders, etc...and the fact they're my fam, you'd think I'd spend more time over there

maybe next summer we can go camp and tear the place up, i know they closed down most of the camp sites...but the folKs got a killer spot on the property, and we'd be able to shower! haha

maybe something to think about anyway, im goin thru some serious issues w/ my right wrist and am hoping to god it isn't gonna make riding a problem.....cuz I'll have to peel my cap. I basically crashed my gsxr..just didn't fall off....now wishing I'da just let go. Did this 2 winters ago and after last weekends ride...I can still barely move it

If they are a dealer they should take care of the transfer for you. If they don't I'd tell them to fuck off on the taxes.

Or, maybe you can bring the receipt with you to show you already paid when you do the transfer.

edit: found this on the state dol site. Looks like you should be ok with proof of sales tax paid.

Use tax is a tax on items used in Washington when sales tax has not been paid. When you purchase a vehicle or vessel from a private party, you are required by law to pay use tax when the vehicle or vessel title is transferred.

edit 2: you may want to be careful though about their 'dealership' status. I've seen a few of these adds and find it odd that they appear to be a private seller (pics aren't at a dealership) but insist on collecting sales tax - could be just another scam to get more money out of you. Ask for their state tax id number or make sure the sales receipt includes their dealership information.

Use tax is due if:
  • Goods are purchased from someone who is not authorized to collect sales tax. For example, purchases of furniture from an individual through a newspaper classified ad or a purchase of artwork from an individual collector.
Edit 3: also found this

Who is responsible for transferring ownership
  • If you buy from a dealership, they will complete the paperwork to transfer ownership into your name for you.
  • If you buy from a private party, you are responsible for transferring ownership of the vehicle into your name within 15 days.

good call, doin' the same myself....mostly b/c of weight and agility it will have for the dirt. bigger bikes/new peeps usually dont do well and it hinders the guy 90% of the time... slow learning curve, usually dont wanna ride the tighter fun stuff and always wants to stay in the "pit' or ride open boring stuff, seen it a bunch! Unless the guys a big guy...its usually not a good idea.

alot of the DS thing is new to me is areas of gear, etc. 1 thing I noticed is its just as important as gearing up for the street rides. you sweat your ass off ...or are freezing. Even cold days! what to carry is also diffrent...Im used to always having the truck as "base camp" and having spare clothes, tools, spare gear, parts, food/drink/munchies..etc. Im used to the basic necessary trail stuff... and even enough of that gets REAL heavy after a long day.
Everything is a "happy/medium" w/ these things...gear, tires, "mods"...shit, even helmets! haha
