How often do you all change your bike's oil?

I searched PNW for a post on this topic but didn't find one...

The reason I ask is that my Triumph sets service intervals at 6,000 miles but various sources (e.g., a book on bike maintenance) have said you should do it every 3,000 miles or 3 months.

Since the Triumph uses synthetic oil, that's a little pricey, even though I've done the extra changes myself...

Is that because, for all their talk about meeting nice people on Hondas, the company is in league with the forces of darkness?

Just asking...

gets changed around every 1200 miles, or during spring, or before and after a track day, whichever comes first.

i change the filter annually whether it needs it or not.

as for the oil, it's an aprilia. it consumes oil, so it gets a fresh tank about every 3 months as it burns thru a quart per month.

Actually, I think they are in league with the forces of laziness, and you do meet the nicest people on hondas - many of them are just very lazy.

as for the darkness. . . it's only because we were too lazy to get up and turn on the light.

1200 miles?? Damn! Is that really going to make your engine last that much longer? Are you even going to have the bike that long to guess if there was a difference?

no wonder why we are reaching peak oil

no, it's more like...i don't put enough miles on the bike or ride it often enough to have the 1200 be regular miles. one of those other things gets in the way. the bike is four years old and has 5800 on it, i think.

i put a little over 500 on it this year. 325 of that on one ride.

which is why my honda runs forever.

i think it'd rather sit in the garage than haul my fat ass around.

it'll see a lot more use next year. getting a feeling the car isn't going to be as good of a commuter as i was hoping as more things are starting to fall apart on it.

Every 2K is my rule of thumb and I change the filter too. Though I've only had one oil change since getting the new bike = I didn't ride enough this year.

You running synthetic in yours?

You probably ride way faster than me (everyone does) so maybe that means more oil changes....

No she has bardahl in it. I changed it myself heheh.

How do you use your bike? Track? Daily ride? Summer dick around vehicle?

2k is a good area to start changing your oil. I usually start to think about it at 2k, then by the time I hit something much higher I change it. I think it's been about every 3 months I've changed it. It's my daily ride too so I rack on the miles.

Synthetic should last you longer... I'm not really sure if that's true or not though. Do whatever you want, just remember to change the filter.
