Miss shifting

So what exactly is happening when you miss an up shift? Say like from 2nd to third, no clutch. Hella harder to shift with these boots. The FZ6 used to miss shift a lot. The Honda almost never.

*maybe inspector should ask MB?

Motorcycle Man 04-27-2008 04:45 PM

Meaning you stay in the same gear?

If you just apply force and nothing happens I would guess you still had load on the transmission and did nothing except put unneeded forces into the shift forks.

Inspector 04-27-2008 04:57 PM

^^no you don't stay in gear. The engine goes WWAAAAAAAAAAA... as you coast with throttle, until you grab clutch and kick it into gear.

I believe there is no damage, so long as you grab the clutch and gently prod it into gear.

Just in between gears is all.

oak 04-27-2008 07:34 PM

no noise = no damage

Plummy 04-27-2008 07:59 PM

did that once downshifting.

did not make good noise.

You're finding a false neutral.

Make sure that you grab the clutch before it pops into gear. Then try to rev match as best you can with the clutch in. Then you won't put much stress on the trans.

I worked at walmart for a little over two years, and in that time I was not exactly a model employee, though my apparent seniority had me training all the new people in the back room. I trained most of them to treat the customers like farm animals and never pay them any real attention.

One of the new guys should have payed attention to that part of the training, as he shall forever regret asking a customer if he could help. In the cereal aisle, he sees this creature shopping approaches to greet with a smile. “May I help you sir?” It turns it’s head and looks directly at him. He shrinks back and squeaks out “….m’am?” As if he wasn’t certain.

It just grumbles out in this deep voice, “That’s fucked up.” and lumbers off to continue its shopping. He was devastated.

I thought about fixing it, but then I thought the desired information I was attempting to transfer exists behind the redex, so I'll just leave it as is.

it is absolutely possible to over-rev the engine mechanically...i`m not saying it isnt...i`m saying that at his quoted 90 mph, it would`ve been difficult at least to get it into 1st...dropping the clutch with such a drastic difference between allowable speed and actual speed would`ve fragged the tires instantly...it isnt like going from 5th to 3rd, where you have a huge mechanical advantage from trans to motor...from 3 to 1, the mechanical advantage is hugely reduced...as 1st is the best mechanical advantage from motor to trans, its worst in reverse...am i making sense???this is why it`s easier to pop start a car in a higher gear than a lower gear...in such a case, the m/a would be better in 5th than 1st....

ohi. normally i'd say tell us who you is or suck a dick but i'm not convinced you're real so just suck a dick.
